About Us

Too often, Canadians are made to feel that they have to choose between good jobs or protecting the environment. We believe we can and must choose both.

Blue Green Canada brings together workers and environmental organizations to solve today’s environmental challenges in ways that create and maintain quality jobs and build a clean, thriving, and equitable economy. An economy that will thrive as it transitions to zero emissions and ensures that workers and our communities do not bear the financial and social impacts of climate change alone.

Blue Green Canada works with our members and allies to ensure that our governments follow through on their commitments to do more than just consult. When workers are affected entire communities are affected. Government consultation, planning and implementation processes must include real participation by the workers who are already carrying the weight of industrial change on their collective shoulders.

Blue Green Canada works with the expectation that our governments will actively design and implement strategies and programs that are worker and community focused, reduce emissions, create long-term clean jobs and address our climate-related challenges.

Blue Green Canada started out as a strategic alliance between Canada’s largest private sector labour unions and prominent environmental organizations, incorporated in 2010, and has grown to include the United Steelworkers, Environmental Defence, Unifor, Clean Energy Canada, the Pembina Institute, the Broadbent Institute, and the Columbia Institute.
