Guelph Ontario is at the forefront of Ontario’s green economic transition. Guelph has its own community energy plan which calls for a reduction of per capita energy use and greenhouse gas emissions. Their utility, Guelph Hydro, is pursuing a number of renewable energy projects within City limits. And Guelph’s citizens can participate in the green economy as well, through membership in one of the city’s two solar co-operatives.

Guelph’s commitment to the green economy are believed to have helped the city establish a solar energy cluster anchored by Canadian Solar, Canada’s largest solar panel manufacturer, and Sustainable Energy Technologies, a solar inverter manufacturer. This commitment is also encouraging existing manufacturers such as Guelph’s largest employer, Linamar, to take action to green operations and reduce their impacts.
